Premium Grade and Mortise Tip Compression Spirals

ToolWolf is excited to announce that we now carry even more types and sizes of solid carbide compression router bits for CNC applications. We’ve been experimenting with different types of carbide for the last year and have found a supplier that not only has an excellent standard grade, but also an amazing premium grade carbide that provides even longer life.

Premium grade carbide serves a few purposes:

Longer overall tool life Cutting edges stay sharper longer More durability when cutting solid surface or other difficult materials

Not only do we offer our compression spirals in both standard and premium grade, we also are offering a few key sizes with a mortise tip. And we even carry a few of these in a left-handed rotation! I know, we’re getting crazy.

Here are a few of the common sizes that we’re excited to offer our customers in premium grade and with a mortise tip:

3/8 x 1-1/4 x 3 x 3/8 = $73.34 1/2 x 1-1/8 x 3 x 1/2 = $83.47 1/2 x 1-5/8 x 3-1/2 x 1/2 = $95.16

If you sign up for our newsletter, you’ll receive a free copy of our comprehensive price list which contains all of the router bits we offer:

Solid carbide compression Solid carbide up or down cut Tungsten carbide tipped 2-flute straight plunge TCT template trim bits Solid carbide laminate trim Corner round 2-flute bits with bearings

And so much more. We wish everyone a prosperous new year!

Solid Carbide Router Bits

CNC solid carbide router bits have become the go-to tool for many industrial woodworking applications. Their versatility and the design of today’s CNC machines has made them much more popular than saw blades, boring bits or even the carbide tipped router bits that were their predecessors.

We’ve got excellent solid carbide compression bits for sale now: http://www.toolwolf.com/product/product-category/solid-carbide-compression-router-bit/

The most interesting use of the CNC solid carbide boring bit beyond the traditional routing application is in the cutting of panels that used to be performed on a panel saw machine. As CNC machine functionality and speed has increased, it has become easier to use a solid carbide router bit to cut or size panels than to use a more expensive panel saw blade.

In response to this increased functionality, carbide tooling manufacturers have created a multitude of new solid carbide router bit styles for use in various applications:

– Solid carbide compression router bits: 2×2, 3×3, mortise tip and more – Solid carbide up or down shear router bits: up shear, down shear – Solid carbide coated router bits: various coatings applied to extend tool life

We hope that everyone who attended the recent industrial woodworking trade show in Las Vegas (http://awfsfair.org/) had a great time. Gauging by the amount of parties we heard about, I think it’s safe to assume that everyone enjoyed themselves.

The team at Tool Wolf got to see some old friends, meet some new ones and get a look at some of the advances in cutting tools and machinery. The SCM Group (http://www.scmgroupna.com/us/sectors_wood) certainly had a good showing with a wide array of new, innovative CNC routers and saws that always had a large group of attendees watching their demonstrations. Tool Wolf’s product line is a great fit with their line of machinery and our tools have been outfitted on their machines in many facilities throughout the country.

Another hot topic in the world of solid carbide router bits was the subject of advanced coatings. We spoke with a number of OEMs and end users to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of buying solid carbide router bits with a special coating:

Advantages – Some said that they could get 7-10 times as many cuts with a coated bit – Overall tooling costs can be reduced and production rates can increase

Disadvantages – Once the bits are sharpened, the coating along the cutting edge is effectively gone – Coating materials are different from every provider and can lead to a lot of variability in performance – The up-front cost differential can be substantial

ToolWolf has partnered with a few different vendors to provide solid carbide router bits with a special coating. While they are not listed for sale on the website, please give us a call or send an email for more information. They are a great compliment to our standard line of solid carbide compression and directional bits. As always, thanks for visiting the ToolWolf blog!
